We are delighted to announce that our founder, social entrepreneur Alison Lewy, has been honoured with an MBE for services to the fashion industry.
Drawing on her own background of running a fashion label for many years, Alison set up Fashion Angel to offer a solution to the high failure rate of fashion businesses, often due to a lack of business and entrepreneurial skills as well as difficulty finding finance. Alison and the Fashion Angel team has to date given 100’s of budding fashion entrepreneurs the opportunity to tap in to specialist industry expertise via a suite of business support services including mentoring, training & networking events.
As a Delivery Partner of the government backed Start Up Loan scheme, and the only one to specialise in the fashion industry, help is given with access to both start up and growth funding. In addition support is also offered to expanding businesses, so they can grow sustainably and meet the challenges when preparing for investment.
Alison says “The fashion business is tough, with its own unique challenges. When I started my first business there wasn’t any specialist help available, and as a result I made unnecessary mistakes. I was determined, as soon as circumstances allowed, to become a mentor and share my experiences with the next generation of fashion entrepreneurs to help them avoid some of the pitfalls.
We have such a wealth of talent in this country and the designers we work with are a constant source of inspiration – we’re passionate about giving them the right guidance and tools, to enable them to set up and then build growing successful enterprises. I am honoured that our hard work in this area has been recognised by being awarded this MBE.”
